“And on this side and on that side of the river was the tree of life, producing twelve fruits, yielding its fruit each month” (Revelation 22:2a). “Each month” indicates that the moon will be present in the new heavens. Since the moon shines by reflection of the sun’s light, the sun also will be present in the new creation.
In the new creation there will be day and night but in New Jerusalem “night will be no more…for the Lord God will shine upon them” (Revelation 22:5). God in Christ as the Lamb-lamp (Revelation 21:23) is a light brighter than the sun (Acts 26:13-15).
Zachariah prophesied that the birth of the Lord Jesus would be like the rising sun visiting us from on high (Luke 1:78). Then, during His ministry on earth, when He appeared in the miniature of His kingdom (Matthew 16:28–17:9) and when He comes in the full manifestation of His kingdom, His face shines like the sun. Revelation 1:16 also tells us His face is as the sun shines in its power.
Jesus Christ is the real sun. The physical sun is a picture of Him. Because all the people in New Jerusalem have Jesus Christ as their life, they have the real sun as their light of life. In a situation of day and night, “day” is defined by the presence of the sun. Since Christ is our real sun, He is also our real day. We experience His shining now and we will have much more in New Jerusalem.

I have often thought that Jesus will be revealed to us in so many more ways than His human-looking body when we see Him in Heaven…because He is described as Light {I am the Light of the world.” – John 8:12}, a Sun, a Shield, and so many more things….Also as God, He is described as a Pavilion, Fortress, Hiding Place, Keeper, Refuge, Rock, Shade, Shelter, and Stronghold…making me wonder if He may manifest not only like a Bright Shining Light/Sun for us in that time, as well as in a physical body, but also possbibly in many other forms/dimensions even as a physical/supernatural Pavilion or Fortress? Fascinating to think about! He can manifest Himself to us probably in a billion forms as He chooses to reveal Himself to us more fully in Heaven! Thank You Jesus! May He bless you!
