We Will Be Slaves in New Jerusalem

God's slaves serve in New JerusalemRevelation 22:3 says, “And there will no longer be a curse. And the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His slaves will serve Him.” We are free from the curse and in the kingdom of God and of the Lamb. Here we are slaves to serve God and the Lamb.

The good news in the New Testament is both that we are freed and that we are enslaved. In John 8:32 knowing the truth sets us free. This is not to know some correct facts but to know the One who is true because in 8:36 the Lord says if “the Son sets you free, you shall be free indeed” and in 14:6 He says, “I am the truth.” Likewise, Galatians 5:1 says, “Christ has set us free.”

We have been set free from sin and enslaved to God and to righteousness (Romans 6:18, 22). We are free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2). We are slaves of Jesus Christ, as the apostles regarded themselves in first verse of Romans, James, 2 Peter, Jude, and Revelation.

To live in the reality of being a slave, we need to “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:5-8). Christ Jesus, although He is God inwardly, emptied Himself, taking the outward form of a slave to come and serve us, even becoming obedient to the death of the cross. In this serving, He laid down His soul life that we might have eternal life (John 10:10b-11).

Because He is now our life, He can become our thinking, giving us a mind to follow Him, emptying ourselves to take the form of a slave. Lord, we ask You to live the real life of a slave in us. Cause us to learn this living and to serve as slaves now to prepare for serving in New Jerusalem.

O Lord Jesus, we take You as our Pattern! Help us to open to You so that You can work Yourself into our inward parts according to Your purpose and goal!

  2. I never thought of it this way before. Wow, so it’s not only Christ who is the Serving One, the Slave of God serving us from eternity past, in time, and in eternity future, but we also as His duplication and counterpart will also be the slaves of God dwelling with Him in New Jerusalem! How wonderful!

    • Jesus said, “apart from Me you can do nothing.” Apart from Him we cannot be the true slaves of God. But He is the pattern and He lives in us to make us proper slaves of God.
