Christ is the King of Righteousness and King of Peace

Christ is our righteousnessHebrews 7:1 speaks of “Melchisedec, king of Salem” and verse 2 tells us that his name means “king of righteousness” and that king of Salem means “king of peace.” Several verses from Hebrews 5:6 to 7:17 speak of Melchisedek as a type (a picture) of Christ, saying that Christ is “a Priest forever according to the order of Melchisedec.”

Christ is the eternal King and High Priest. As the King of righteousness and King of peace, He is the source of righteousness and peace for the whole universe. Where He reigns, there is righteousness and peace. Today, to the extent He reigns in us, we have righteousness and peace. When He is not reigning in us we are in unrighteousness and confusion. When He reigns among a group of Christians, they are in righteousness and peace and they manifest these virtues. This is why, individually and together, we are seeking first (above all else) “His kingdom and His righteousness” (Matthew 6:33).

When Christ returns visibly, His kingdom on earth will be one of righteousness and peace. Ultimately, in the new heavens and new earth there will be the fullest righteousness and peace. This is what Peter spoke about: “we are expecting new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells” (2 Peter 3:13). The center of the new heavens and new earth is New Jerusalem with the Christ as the King of righteousness and King of peace on the throne (Revelation 22:1).

  3. Amen, brother… when Christ reigns in us, we have righteousness which issues in peace. The reason there’s no peace today is because there’s no righteousness!

Lord, we enthrone You as king in our being. Be on the throne in the center of our being, and rule in us today!

It seems that Melchizedek was acting as High Priest of the souls of those that died under the old Covenant and those that died during the first century! Melchizedek was acting as Priest for those in Sheol under the Old Covenant
