New Jerusalem: No Night There (1)

No night in New JerusalemRevelation 21:25 says, “there will be no night there.” “God is light and in Him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5). Jesus Christ came into humanity full of eternal life and this life is “the light of men” (John 1:4). He told us to “believe into the light, so that you may become sons of light” (John 12:36). By believing into Him, we are born of God and become “sons of light.”

As fallen men we were dark. Ephesians 5:8 speaks of a marvelous change: “For you were once darkness but are now light in the Lord; walk as children of light.” This change is also described in Colossians 1:13: God the Father “delivered us out of the authority of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.”

In John 12:46 Jesus promised, “I have come as a light into the world, that every one who believes into Me would not remain in darkness.” By believing into Him we are born again and become children of light. This is the first step in the fulfillment of this promise. Throughout our Christian life, as we “walk in the light” we have fellowship with God and experience more light (1 John 1:5-7). This continues the fulfillment of the Lord’s promise. Finally, in New Jerusalem we have the complete fulfillment of not remaining in darkness because no darkness is there. In God there “is no darkness at all” and in eternity this attribute of God permeates New Jerusalem so that there is “no night there.”
