Authority and Life (2)

Colossians 2:19 says, “holding the Head, out from whom all the Body, being richly supplied and knit together by means of the joints and sinews, grows with the growth of God.” Christ’s being the Head indicates His authority. Out from Him as the authority flows a rich supply that causes the growth of the Body. The supply for growth in life flows out from Christ the Head. The headship, flow, and growth in this age lead us to the eternal throne with the eternal flow of life in Revelation 22:1: “And he showed me a river of water of life, bright as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb in the middle of its street.”

Colossians 2 warns us not to be occupied with philosophy, traditions, religious practices, and asceticism. Similarly, today people are occupied with politics, environmental issues, social justice, and many other matters, but these are not Christ. In Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. We were raised with Him, made alive in Him, and are made full/complete in Him. If we are occupied with other matters we cannot hold Christ as our Head because the other matters become our head, a force that controls us. But, if we drop the other matters and give ourselves to Christ as our Head, we will be under the throne. This positions us to be in the flow of life. At the same time, this flow of life fortifies our holding to Him. This is the mutuality of life and authority which matches what we see in Revelation 22:1.
