The River of Water of Life is Flowing Today

Revelation 22:1 says, “And he showed me a river of water of life…” John saw the river of life flowing. This river is the Spirit flowing for us to drink (John 7:38-39; 1 Cor. 12:13). In John 7 the Spirit was not yet flowing because Jesus was not yet glorified, but in resurrection He was glorified (compare Luke 24:26 & 24:46). As an outcome of Christ’s resurrection the river, the Spirit, is flowing today. Since in one Spirit we were all baptized into the one Body we are now positioned to drink of this Spirit (1 Cor. 12:13).

We should not look at Revelation 22 and think that the river of water of life will only be present in the far future. No. John 7 and 1 Corinthians 12 show that water for drinking is a picture of the Spirit. In Romans 8:2 is “the Spirit of life,” in 1 Corinthians 15:45 is the “life-giving Spirit,” and in 2 Corinthians 3:6, “the Spirit gives life.” This life-giving Spirit is the river of water of life flowing today.

Some of the many ways for us to drink the Spirit are:
•    believe into the Lord (John 7:38-39)
•    ask the Lord, “give me the living water” (John 4:10)
•    declare to the Lord, “I am thirsty” (Revelation 21:6)
•    rejoice in the Lord (Isaiah 12:3); praise Him!
•    turn from broken cisterns that hold no water to the Lord (Jeremiah 2:13)

Don’t wait for the future. The river of water of life is here today. Today we can have a foretaste of the New Jerusalem. Lord, give me a drink of living water now and more drinks throughout today.
