Preparing the Bride by Washing (5)

New Jerusalem is “prepared as a bride adorned for her husband” (Revelation 21:2) by “the washing of the water in the word” (Ephesians 5:26). The Lord is the living Word, the Logos. When we turn our hearts to Him, then in our fellowship with Him the printed words of the Bible, the written logos, become rhema to wash our inner being.

In John 5:39-40 the Lord Jesus said to the Jews, “You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is these that testify concerning Me. Yet you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.” His rebuke was not for searching the Scriptures but for separating the written Scripture from Himself.

When we come to the Bible, the written logos, and at the same time come to the Lord, the living Logos, His promise is that we will receive life. This life supply is rhema and this life supply accomplishes the washing spoken of in Ephesians 5.

Lord, draw us to Yourself every time we open the Bible.
