Once or twice a month this year I will post excerpts from books wholly or partially about New Jerusalem.
The first book is God’s New Testament Economy, by Witness Lee, published and © by Living Stream Ministry, Anaheim CA, 1986. This book is available here and may be read online by selecting it in the list here. The last 19 of the 44 chapters speak about the ultimate consummation, New Jerusalem, focusing on its designations, structure, features, and application to the believers.
Here is a quote from the Foreword of this book:
God’s oikonomia,* economy (1 Tim. 1:4), is God’s household administration, His household management, His plan to distribute or dispense Himself into His chosen, redeemed, and regenerated people as their life and everything to produce a unique thing in the universe, the Body of Christ, which is His corporate expression as the golden lampstands in this age and ultimately as the New Jerusalem for eternity. The Triune God dispenses Himself in His entirety into us, His Body, by the Father being embodied in the Son and the Son being realized and consummated as the Spirit, reaching us…for our experience, enjoyment, and building up. The content of this divine economy is a wonderful, all-inclusive Person. This Person is the processed and consummated Triune God—the Father, the Son, and the Spirit. The New Testament is a full record of the marvelous revelation of God’s New Testament economy.
The dispensing of the Triune God for the building up of Christ’s Body is seen in multiple verses, such as Ephesians 2:20-22 and Ephesians 4:15-16, “Holding to truth in love, we may grow up into Him in all things, who is the Head, Christ, out from whom all the Body…causes the growth of the Body unto the building up of itself in love.” The result of this dispensing is expressed in Revelation 1–3 by the seven churches as lampstands and in Revelation 21–22 by New Jerusalem.
* The Greek word oikonomia (οικονομία) means household administration. The household of God is the church of the living God (1 Tim. 3:15), the goal of God’s economy is to head up all things in Christ (Ephesians 1:10), and He carries this out by giving Christ to be Head over all things to the church, His body (Ephesians 1:22-23).
